    Wildlife Seen: 2 Sandhill Cranes

    Behavior Observed:

    Flying fairly low

  • Mourning Cloak Butterfly

    Date: Mar 25, 2020 at 5:00 pm

    Location: Observatory Park

    Wildlife Seen: 1 Mourning Cloak Butterfly

    Behavior Observed:

    While on the Woodland Loop trail we were surprised to see a black butterfly with a white band on the wing edge. It across the trail in front of us then into the trees.

  • Red-shouldered Hawk

    Behavior Observed:

    Basking in the sun after snacking on a small rodent

  • American Kestrel

    Date: Mar 04, 2020 at 8:00 pm

    Location: SE corner of Chamberlain Rd and Winchell road

    Wildlife Seen: 1 Kestrel

    Behavior Observed:

    Kestrel was hunting from power lines. It swooped into the field as my car passed. I drove back to see if it was in fact a kestrel and by then it had returned to the power lines, it appeared to be a male. I turned around once again and I saw him dive back into the field before I approached.

  • Bald Eagle

    Location: Just south of Parkman Center

    Wildlife Seen: One Bald Eagle

    Behavior Observed:

    Just gliding over the tops of the trees. It was a beautiful sight to see. Sorry no photos. Saw near Grand River Estates off Parkman Nelson Road.

    Flew over the south east part of the lake towards Rt. 44

    Location: Chickagami Park

    Wildlife Seen: 2 Bald Eagles

    Behavior Observed:

    They flew over the parking lot in Chickagami Park.

    That is great. We are always on the look out for the bald eagle and where they may be living.

    Location: Bass Lake Preserve

    Wildlife Seen: approximately 24 Tundra Swans

    Behavior Observed:

    Swimming on the lake about 500 yards south of the lodge this morning at 9:30 a.m. (sorry, can’t seem to change the time from 2:30 p.m.)

    Wildlife Seen: 1 White-tailed Junco

    Behavior Observed:

    This guy was eating seed on ground near our feeders. First time we’ve had one.
