  • Nest ID

    Question

This bird's nest was recently made on the top of a car tire sheltered by the wheel well. My friend removed it from her husband's car and the bird made a new nest on the tire of her car. The photo shows the second nest on top of a piece of wood. Much of the moss around the perimeter was placed there by the car owner. Center depression is 2" wide and 1 1/2" deep. They live in Hambden. Can you ID the bird before eggs are laid? Thanks!

    Naturalist's Response

I would say it’s either an Eastern Phoebe (photo of bird on sign) or a Dark-eyed Junco (photo of bird on ground). They both use similar nesting materials and are exciting to have in your yard!
